While looking for a job, a task to do to help prove our worth, and earn some money, word reached them that Gimpy was worried he may have lost a group of loggers. He accepted us to go look for them. The eight of us talked and decided that Teal, Rathues, Hayle, and Illi would be the group to go. With armor and weapons, the four headed across the lake in the direction the loggers had been sent. It was eerie their first night out but thankfully, nothing ‘came to visit’ them.
On the second day, they came across the markers used by Gimpy, blue for known trails, green for new ones. The smell that greeted them was offal, rancid, vial! The logger’s decaying bodies were scattered throughout the small clearing. It was decided Illi, the little sneaky halfling, should circle around to the other side to see up close. Making it around, she entered into the area next to the one leaning over him. He was slashed apart, bloated and rotting, long dead.
Then, the sound similar to a swarm of grasshoppers, when they rub their legs together, began in the tops of the surrounding trees. Joining Illi, the group was swooped down on by yet another strange and creepy ‘animal’ kind. The ‘things’ would sweep across the clearing, raking the group if possible, land near the bottom of another tree, and proceed to climb back up to repeat the process. After killing a couple, they calmed down, but the group was fearful of leaving them for the next group.
